Great beauty products . . . which ALL fit in your Ziploc bag!

The infamous single Ziploc bag vs. your Favorite salon products
I have had several colleagues over the past few years who just cannot part with their normal hair and beauty products and check a larger bag for work meetings which are 3 or 4 nights duration.  They just can’t survive being limited by the Ziploc bag of products.
Checking a bag nowadays is such a hassle . . . especially in cases of stand-by or cancellations or just in the time it takes for your bag to make it to baggage claim.
You CAN part with your big bottles and huge makeup bag.  I can routinely fit 3 or 4 nights worth of clothes, pajamas, workout clothes, 3 pairs of shoes, all of my makeup and hair necessities, snacks, and my Ziploc bag in my carry-on.
Here’s several of my favorite products and hints of how you TOO can ditch the checked bag and still maintain your beauty routine.

This one is not one I normally take with me due to the 3oz / Ziploc bag restrictions, but is one of my new favorites and a must have for anyone who wears nail polish and needs to go several days without a chip.  Saves you space by not having to take the nail polish . . . just need a bottle of clear to apply daily.  Butter London Nail Foundation . . . . it’s the best.
Speaking of nail polish, don’t waste an expensive bottle of clear polish for your travel bag.  I have numerous bottles of the few dollar Sally Hansen or Wet & Wild clear polish.  Use these instead . . . it’s cheap and if you lose it or break it or get it taken away, you are only out a few dollars.
Clinique 3 step sample size – these are GREAT for a 1-2 night trip.  Saves you a container of facewash.  I have gotten mine at Sephora, either as a free sample or a points/reward redemption.

Aveda facewash and hair product - this is a great brand to buy and refill.  I will admit I don’t use it at home, but use it all the time for work trips as it is a great product and the best part is that it’s refillable.
Aveda Brilliant non-aerosol hairspray is my favorite non-aerosol hairspray and this I do use at home and on the road.  Easily refillable with the larger Aveda size.
Speaking of refilling, get a small container or jar and keep refilling it with either hand lotion or pomade/hair product.  I have an old small aloe vera jar I refill with my favorite Living Proof amp texture volumizer (pomade).  Most of these types of products don’t come in travel size, so just get a small container with lid and refill it.
Renu travel saline
Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray or Aveda air control aerosol hairspray (not refillable . . . but I love them both and they tend to last a long time)
Michael O’Rourke Rock your Hair bombshell powder (does not need to be in your Ziploc bag)
I tend to order a fair amount of beauty products from Sephora (website or on the Sephora app) and from the Aveda website
Not only are they convenient (I can order from my iPhone), but if you sign up for their emails you can place your orders when they have free shipping or other promotions.
They both always have numerous free samples to choose from and have travel sizes of many great products.  Since I mentioned my favorite Aveda products earlier, here are my favorite samples or trial sizes I have ordered from Sephora –
Dior Lash Maximizer (travel size)
Bumble & Bumble (sample size shampoos/conditioners, Thickening hairspray, Surf Spray travel size)
Smashbox primer
Living Proof thickening mousse
Perfume samples (the Sephora app always has perfume samples to choose from upon checkout)
Perfume rollerballs (Sephora and Ulta always have numerous choices to pick from, these easily fit in a ziplock bag)
Finally, I recently came across a neat new website 3FLOZ which has travel size products available for numerous different brands.  You can arrange automatic re-shipment of your order every 30/60/90 days.  They also have vending machines available in various airports in case you forgot something.  You can also find them on twitter @3floz
Any great products I missed?  What are your go-to travel favorites?
Cut the tie with the checked bag . . . go carry-on and still maintain your normal beauty routine!

  1. Love the suggestions! The hair products are a great idea that I had not thought of. I always think my hair looks so much better at home than it does when I travel. I am going to get some travel sizes. As far as other items I also like travel free breeze and perfume samples from the make up counter.
